IACOP-PAI'24: Photoacoustic Imaging

As a noninvasive hybrid biomedical imaging technology that combines the unique advantages of optical imaging and acoustic imaging, photoacoustic imaging has been widely used in the fields of tissue imaging, cancer detection, cardiovascular disease detection, and image-guided surgery, and has gradually become an important tool for preclinical and clinical research. In this context, IACOP-PAI'24 aims to provide a platform for researchers around the world to exchange and collaborate on the latest research results, technology trends and application prospects in the field of photoacoustics.

Yachao Zhang
Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Biography: Yachao Zhang, Researcher, PhD supervisor of University of Science and Technology of China, graduated from the Department of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering of the City University of Hong Kong in October 2020, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the City University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2020-2022, and joined the Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBSET) in January 2023. He has been engaged in the research of ultrasound imaging and photoacoustic imaging technologies and applications.

Xianlin Song
School of Information Engineering, Nanchang University, China

Biography: Xianlin Song, Associate Professor of School of Information Engineering, Nanchang University, China. He has been devoted to the research of new methods and technologies of intelligent photoelectric imaging, and has in-depth research in the fields of artificial intelligence, optical imaging, photoacoustic imaging, and super-resolution imaging.

Yachao Zhang

Cheng Ma

Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University, China

Biography: Cheng Ma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, he received his PhD degree from Virginia Tech in 2012, and then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He has been mainly engaged in the research on the basic theory of Photoacoustic imaging and its application to biomedicine.

Junhui Shi

Zhejiang Lab, China

Biography: Junhui Shi received the B.S. degree in chemical physics from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, USA, in 2013. He was working on theoretical chemical dynamics and experimental nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Afterward, he worked on photoacoustic imaging at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO, USA, and the Department of Medical Engineering, Caltech, Pasadena, CA, USA. He is currently a Senior Researcher with the Research Center for Hybrid Sensing, Zhejiang Laboratory, Hangzhou, China. His research interests include photoacoustic microscopy, photoacoustic tomography, nuclear magnetic imaging, and their applications in biomedical studies.

Jun Ma
Institute of Photonics Technology, Jinan University, China

Biography: Jun Ma received the B.Eng. degree from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hubei, China, in 2010, and the Ph.D. degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, in 2014. From 2015 to 2016, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with Washington University at St. Louis, St. Louis, MO, USA. Since 2016, he has been with the Institute of Photonics Technology, Jinan University, Guangzhou, China, as an Associate Professor. His current research interests include fiber-optic acoustic sensors and photoacoustic spectroscopy/imaging.

Li Qi
School of Biomedical Engineering, Southern Medical University, China

Biography: Dr. Li Qi is currently an associate professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. He graduated from South China University of Technology in 2010 with a B. Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, and then obtained his Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering from Nanjing University in 2016. From 2014 to 2016, he was a Ph.D. visiting scholar and then undertook postdoctoral training at the Beckman Laser Institute, University of California, Irvine, USA. Since returning to China in 2016, Dr. Li Qi has been working at the School of Biomedical Engineering, Southern Medical University, serving as a lecturer and then associate professor. His main research interests include biomedical optical imaging technology and image analysis algorithms.

Fei Gao
School of Information Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University, China

Biography: Dr. Gao received his bachelor degree in Microelectronics from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2009, and PhD degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2015. He worked as postdoctoral researcher in Nanyang Technological University and Stanford University in 2015-2016. He joined School of Information Science and Technology, ShanghaiTech University as an assistant professor in Jan. 2017, and established Hybrid Imaging System Laboratory. His interdisciplinary research topics include hybrid imaging physics (photoacoustic, ultrasound, magnetoacoustic imaging, etc.), biomedical circuits, systems and algorithm design.

Qianjin Guo
Academy of Artificial Intelligence, Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology, China

Biography: Qianjin Guo is a professor at the Academy of Artificial Intelligence, Beijing University of Petrochemical Technology. His main research fields include intelligent equipment and systems, machine learning, biomedical imaging and ultrafast spectroscopy.

Haigang Ma
School of Electronic and Optical Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China

Biography: Haigang Ma received the Ph.D. degree in Optics from the South China Normal University, China, in 2020. Now he is an associate professor in School of Electronic and Optical Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, China. His research interests include photoacoustic imaging, ultrasonic imaging, photoelectric detection and processing, and photoacoustic imaging for various biomedical applications.

Jingyi Zhu
City University of Hong Kong, China

Biography: Jingyi Zhu is a postdoctoral researcher at the City University of Hong Kong. She is mainly engaged in the development of in vivo high-resolution photoacoustic microscopy systems and biomedical applications.

Xiufeng Li
Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China

Biography: Xiufeng Li, graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2022 with a PhD degree in Bioengineering. He joined the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a postdoctoral fellow in February 2024, with a focus on high spatial-temporal resolution photoacoustic imaging and high contrast UV photoacoustic pathology imaging.

Naidi Sun
School of Medical Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, China

Biography: Naidi Sun received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2010 and 2012, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, USA, in 2020. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the School of Medical Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing, China. His research focuses on photoacoustic microscopy and functional–metabolic photoacoustic imaging for biomedical applications.
